Fighting for Yourself — Vital Lesson from a Day Old Baby.

A new mother gave me a new dimension of faith. Faith is not about hope alone. Faith is about fighting for yourself.

There was this young mother whose newborn child was in ICU when my wife delivered at the Agakhan Hospital in Kisumu.

I remember her because she had such a great heart.

She gave me diapers when I didn’t know newborns required diapers. (I bet the 9 months baby anxiety is an excuse for that —but I wasn’t the pregnant one, still. Those who say that pregnancy happens to both couples, I believe them).

I soon discovered that newborns required diapers. One step at a time.
Back to this lady mother.

I’ve never seen someone with a heart bigger, full of white faith.
Where we would have cried, she stood there in her candid composure. She laughed. She smiled. She gave a helping hand. She told a story.

Not many can afford a smile when their day old child is in intensive care — I don’t usually know how to handle myself in such situations.

Some calmness is priceless.

Well, we met her again, yesterday, at the prenatal clinic.
