The Desire to Lead a Quiet Life
It’s every man’s desire to be famous. Jesus is undoubtedly the most famous man in the world.
The bible, however, does not celebrate fame. “Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business and work with your hands, just as we commanded you, so that you will behave properly toward outsiders and not be in any need. (1 Thessalonians 4:11–12).” There are many famous people in the bible. Fame is by human standard. It’s interesting how one can have ambition and yet lead a quiet life, often contradictory. For fame yearns for noise and frenetic agitation. Leading a quiet life on the other hand means that we practise peace and humility.
Every day I am fighting a battle between fame and silence, I believe it’s every man’s duty to. Fame yearns attention, noise, celebration and the ultimate crowning and acceptance of victory. I am human to want to be famous. Yet at the same time, there’s the introvert in me, the silent coward who just wants to lead his life peacefully. In my believe, fame should not be something you fight to achieve. Society pushes us the hardest towards fame. Society rewards fame and famous people. Your parents want the best for you, they yearn that their child becomes famous in this world. I have had to fight this force many times.
